Will fake eggs in the nesting box encourage chickens to lay?

Our friends use these and say that it helps encourage their chickens to lay more eggs, but does it actually? They have around 25 chickens, so its hard for them to monitor whether or not it is really making a difference. Will it encourge them to begin laying? my girls are 16 weeks.

Hi! I don't think it will make them begin to lay but I do know when they start to lay this will encourage them to lay in the nesting boxes!
