Will feed in the coop stop them from coming out?

I've just got 5 new POL hens who are a bit nervous and wont leave the coop after 5 days. Up until now I'v always kept ex-bats who loved to explore the run. I have put a small feeder in the coop so they don't starve but I'm worried they are just going to get use to this and be reluctant to ever come outside. Am I just worrying for no reason and just leave them to come out when they are brave enough or remove the feeder inside the coop to make them come and find their food?

Welcome to BYC!

Your hens are still young and may just be getting used to their new environment. My Easter Eggers pullets barely come outside and they are about 13 weeks old. They are still young and leery of my older hens.

Moving the feeder outside may help them, you could also try to lure them out with treats. Ultimately, I think it will just take time.

Best of luck to you and your flock.

Chickens get very stressed by moves, etc. If they are POL they are not young chicks, so they have been used to a certain living arrangement that has been the only home they know. It will take time. If you could get just one of them to come out, the others will follow.
