I took my nipple watering system down to work out the kinks and was considering an alternative in the mean time. I saw one of those blue plastic kiddie pools in the store for $8. I was thinking of buying it, digging a hole in the ground to place it in and just leaving a hose in it so I could turn the hose on for a few minutes and fill it up to last all day. I still plan on putting the nipple watering system back up but I just thought of doing this for a week or so and then let the chickens have both forms to drink from. Right now I have about 4 of those gallon waterers but even so I have to fill them up mid day. I have one bantam silkie but she can jump pretty high, the rest are large fowl. The pools are only maybe 8 or 10 inches deep.

I bought one last year my chickens wouldn't go in it. I just turn the water on & they come & stand in it. It helps cool them off. I'm sick & tired of this heat but here in Texas the summers go on & on. Well, maybe the shorter days will help.
