ok so at the moment my 3 older drakes are being petsit, but i’ll get them back soon.

i already have a younger drake that i am keeping, so i decided to only keep one of my older boys since i don’t have enough space for more than like 3-4 girls. so... he’s been with them his whole life (over a year) and i’m worried he will be sad. anyone have experience separating ducks?

Can you clarify the total figure before sorting? Is there 4 total? or did you mean 4 males plus...however many females you have?

It will make make a difference if he's the only 1, compared to him being with females.

But others would have more experience to comment further than I could.

It could make a difference also to have a backup male if there's going to be more Covid lockdown mess and store closures. (There's already more agriculture problems than people realize.) Just in case you can't always go to the store to replace them, if things continue to go screwy in our country.

4 males (i’m only keeping two, since last spring they kept mating with each other since i had no hens and they hurt each other)

so i will have two males and two females

They really do that? Mate with each other?

Not sure if I should laugh or cry.

Well I had an idea for you to try but I don't know if it will work.

You might be able to try to put an ad in Craigslist or something to try to offer trading one of your drakes for a female duck.

It admittedly might not work because people tend to want to keep the females more than the drakes, to get eggs. BUT I did see an ad of someone in my area wanting a drake once recently.

And it might even get more takers if you offered 2 live drakes for 1 life female.

Its worth a try anyway. You don't have anything to lose since you were going to give them up anyway right?

(This also depends on you having pretty good knowledge of how drakes and female ducks sound different from each other.)

Let me know what you think.

yes, but it only seemed to start after i reintroduced one of my boys after he was seperated after an animal attack. i think it may have been a dominance issue?

i already have a home for the drakes i can’t keep, i don’t think i would do craigslist because sadly some people would want to eat them (they have been raised as pets, and at the home i found them will be just pets also)
