will he fly south?

my call has been spending almost all day with the wild ducks on my lake since he lost his brother, will he fly south with them when they leave? He only comes "home" once or twice a day to eat some food, and spends the rest of the day and night with them.

I'd think if he'd had in mind to fly south with them, they's have been gone already. What you're seeing are likely "locals" that don't migrate. We have enough feed left on the ground after harvest that the resident Canada Goose population stays here year 'round; I suspect it would be the same with ducks.

How old is he and how long have ya had him? I not real familiar with calls, but can they fly that well? Tame or domesticated ducks don't really have the "Call of the Wild" as wild ducks do and they would never be taken into a group of wilds, because they would act and talk totally different. They will attempt to entice females tho, but with little success.

Call ducks arent the best flyers so i doubt they would migrate even if they had the desire ... sounds like the wild ducks are locals and in no hurry to leave !!

Get him a new mate and pen them up...Calls will fly off although perish once lost...Will not migrate...

from what i understand he is probably a year old, i have had him for a few mo. now after someone set him loose on my lake. he has been flying with them on the lake.

yea i guess thats what i will do.i knew i should have built the pen regardless of how much time he was spending here

I would catch him and clip his wings
