Okay yall, whenever my hens are around the younger roos they make it a point to show them who is in charge (them- the hens)! They not only won't take any crap off the younger roos, they actually kind of pick fights with them. Is there any hope that one day these roos can be the ladies' alfa man? The roos are only about two months younger than the hens. They are the same size. Thanks for your help!

My hens beat up on my roo for about 2-3 months before they finally accepted him. Now, they think he's God's gift to women - they come when he calls and tend to spend a lot of time sidled up to him.

I tried a young(er) rooster (LF) with my girls, and maybe (probably) they would have accepted him eventually, but a month into it they were still having issues. We now have a two year old bantam (about 1/3 the size of my standard girls), and they were respectful toward him within 10 minutes of them being introduced. Age (of the rooster) certainly made a difference with my girls.

I got 2 six month old roos with 5 year old hens and it only took them a couple of weeks and now they can't live with out them

well when I put our 2 1/2 yr old hens in with our 4 month old hens and roos the more dominant older one got banged up from trying to dominate the roos. With in a few days it was ok and the have 2 main roos that are dominant. Our roos are best buddys and friendly with the alpha roo...

I kept mine together, and my hens would beat him up all the time! So I kept them seperated until he was full grown, then reintroduced them to each other and they hit it off!

When my rooster was getting beat up by my hens, someone told me (I think it was pinkchick) that the hens were teaching my rooster humility. When he got to breeding age, he climbed the pecking order 1 hen at a time starting with the lowest ranking hen. Now he's top dog and a complete gentleman.
