Will hens be unhappy without a rooster

I was wondering, someone mentioned an abusive relationship, the roo's do seam to get so harsh and almost violent when breeding. and my mom had chickens years ago and I remember one poor girl , her back was all featherless and her neck and back had sores.. so my question is.. I have seen ads for and even patterns for little apron's or like little back protection for the hens that fit between the wings and then strap under the wings. and they stay on, I guesse all the time??? does this work??? will it really protect the hen and make it more bearable for her. and shoot for me too. I hate to see the girls all scratched up.

lovmychics makes very nice saddles. She sells them here on BYC under Everything else for sell at the Auction boards.
Yes the saddles are awesome and help alot.
Also trim the roosters claws and spurs a bit then file them to be more round versus pointy. You will need a friend to help as one person holds the rooster while the other trims and files.
The rooster may pout about this but the girls will be grateful.

I'm glad you posted this because I just got a pair and even though it's only been 3 days my roo hates me. I'm trying to give it time but nothing is changing. I get a few good moments out of him but when he acts out it's even worse than when I first got him. I'm giving it a week if nothing changes he has to go. They are a year old pair and I got them from my friend and she says he is very friendly and I've seen him sitting on her shoulder and running around and he was fine. I hope he changes but I was worried she would be depressed.
