They really don't need very much. Like, maybe a piece or two a week. So you're not going to see it vanish, but if they need it, they'll eat it. Many hens don't need it, or at least not every day. I just scatter some in the feeder when the eggs get softer. I assume they eat it cause the shells firm back up.
