We got our chicks in April, just started doing some math :

If they wont lay until around the 7-10 month mark that puts us at November....so winter.

I will be waiting until next spring for eggs, wont I?

Chicken math!! Its for the birds!

my Mother in law just aske me this same question. I told her the same thing as Alexa009. I got mine in April and I live in NH. So I don’t expect to get any from my new chicks until next year. You may get one here and there before that but don’t expect it. It’s just a bonus if u do.

I almost always get chicks in April. Chicks hatched in mid April have always started (some) by the end of August & chicks the first week of May by the end of September. I do start a light by August 15th. Never had a chicken wait until 7-10 months to lay.

What breeds did you get?
Your weather is probably similar to mine, if you didn't get anything too exotic, then likely you will get eggs this year.

I've had pullets that hatched in April and they begin laying in late summer/early fall, then lay all winter long.
I've also had pullets hatched mid-July, they began laying late Dec/early January and laid until fall molt.
These were hatchery SLW, BO, PBR, PWR, NH, AU and WLH.

Same here.
They should be laying by late summer to mid fall.
My exceptions have been my Brahma who develop much slower than laying breeds like Barred Rock or Leghorn.

I'd say it depends on the breed, and where you got the breed. The leghorn I had, and my silver hamburg, started laying in Nov and kept right on going through the winter. My gold hamburg also started laying in November, and then stopped for a few months before starting back up again.
