My 8 week old Delaware hen ate a Copperhead about 7 or 8 inches long like a spaghetti noodle. I think it was even still alive..

They have eaten snakes before that were non poisonous, but will it hurt them to eat poisonous snakes? The thing was big around as a small Sharpie! Crazy bird! She seems fine...just wondered...

Thanks for all the answers. She appears to be fine still. I think it did bite her, but she doesn't show any signs of swelling or anything, and it hasn't crawled out of her crop that I have seen. It was still squirming when she slurped it up...but guess it's not now

She's still alive so now that I know it won't kill them guess all those who had no clue now know too...IT WON'T KILL THEM....apparently

My birdies would have been jealous. They'll eat just about anything about the size of their heads.

I'm sure she's fine. Do keep us posted.

As long as it didn't bite her, I would say she's okay. What's funny is that my chicken ate a small snake yesterday, two feet in front of me and my daughter.

I was appalled.

I hope she will be ok. I really have no idea, but you need to give her an extra treat for doing such a great job. What a brave bird, if she only knew what she had in her beak. Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? Tell her to keep up the good work.

I hope mine keep the rattlesnakes away. I wish I could post one chicken at every corner of my house, as sentries

I think she will be fine, i have seen a bird eat ant poison and live with no assistance. I have heard of chickens living through strychnine, and various other poisons as well. Until they get too much...
