It's pretty much what I do. I have a homehatched black sex link roo over barred rock, red sex link, ee, glw, slw and speckled sussex hens, plus my ee/leghorn girls. I have a seperate pen with some bantam cochin girls, those are my broody mommas. When a bantam goes broody, I pick what eggs I want to put under her, usually 5-6 seems to be a good number of full sized eggs for a bantam hen. She does all the work and a month later I have cute mixed babies!I have a mixed flock of hens and one rooster -- my question is, if I hatch the eggs from the mixed chickens and raise them... do I have to worry that they might be sterile? I would like to raise my own chickens, but sure enjoy a mixed flock. Any advice in this area? Also, I am hoping to hatch via broody hen. Would Cochin be the way to go for that?
Thanks!!
