My husband and I keep going back and forth on what we want to do on our coop...thanks to all the great coop ideas on this website we keep coming up with new changes. Anyway, we have moved the location of the coop because I'm afraid the hens might be a little too loud for our neighbor. I know they aren't as loud as a rooster, but I understand they might be loud when they lay their eggs. Anyway, our new location is against our retaining wall. The coop will be in our yard flush against our retaining wall and their run will be on the hillside. There is some flat land at the bottom, but the majority of the run will be on an angle. Will our girls like this?

I'll post a picture when I figure it out how to load them. Sorry.

It's very considerate of you to think of your neighbor and the possibilty of noise:) I sure they will love having lots of room and a nice secure run and coop. Not to mention lots of love and treats!

I live on the side of a mountain, the chickens don't care at all that it isn't flat

I lived in the central corridor of Puerto Rico, (a totally mountainous coffee growing region), and EVERYBODY has chickens roaming up and down the steep slopes.

I think it is really a grea Idea infact to build the run ona hill side, just make sure that the water not goes in the coop. the reason I think it is a good Idea, because your run will not be very muddy when it rain the water will get out so quickly from the run.
Speckeldhen has a nice chicken coop and run and it is on a hill side, check out her webpage, it might give you an inspiration.

good luck.

Just bringing this up there....

Be careful to either make the down-slope taller than the higher end or put netting overtop. Since the birds at the top of the hill might like to "fly" down to the bottom...they could sort of jump over the fence without meaning to.

Very true, that's how my guineas figured out they can "fly"

at least if that's what you wantto call it...
