Greetings fellow backyard duckers,
I’m sad to say that my 3 year old Pekin, Poppy, died on Thursday- cause unknown but none of the other 4 ducks got sick so ??? Still.
Poppy and Roscoe were a mated pair - both Pekins. The other 3 are Welsh Harlequin hens and although Roscoe takes out his randy on them he always went back to hang with Poppy. It’s really 2 mini flocks - so much that they have to be penned separately.
Now it breaks my heart to watch poor Roscoe pining after Poppy. He’s not even going after the other 3.
So I’m wondering…has anyone had success introducing an adult hen to a widower drake? Of course I have no idea where I would get one, but I would surely start looking if it seems likely a match could be made.
TIA!
Christy
