Hi there! I'm new here and I'll do my best to keep this short! I have a 2 year old pekin duck, I've had her since she was a week old. She follows me around, come to me when she scared, let's me hold her, and takes naps on me. But I really want to join the national guard. And I know my parents would take care of her for me. But while I'm gone a few months at basic and ait, will my duck forget who I am? would she recognize me when I come back?

NOt sure but will your parents be able to dedicate that much time to her? perhaps it's best if you get a friend, ducks are flock animals and do thrive and enjoy the company of others.

Best of luck to you though!

I agree with getting her a friend, perhaps another female.

Also, studies have shown that birds have a pretty good memory for individuals and can recognize faces years later. She may not remember everything you did together, but if she was bonded to you, she will remember having pleasant feelings when you were around.
