I separated my Jubilees for almost 2 months so I could start saving Jubilee eggs and ensure they are purebred. I just started saving eggs a couple of days ago
Last night, when it was almost completely dark, and after everyone was (I thought) sleeping soundly on their roosts, I went to check on the water in another pen and one of the roosters escaped. I let him go for a while, they always come back, right? Wrong.
He was gone for maybe ½ hr or 45 minutes, and when I finally found him, he had managed to fly over the 8’ fence, find a gap in the overhead netting, and get back into his old “pre-separation” coop. He was perched there, sleeping with all his old friends, including the jubilee rooster. My husband says since everyone was on the roost, there is no chance that he bred with any of the hens. I think that sounds logical, but want to ask the BYC. What do you think is the likelihood? And if he did breed someone (is that what we call it?) how many future eggs from that hen are likely to have been fertilized from him?
I’m not planning to sell them, but am giving to a friend, but I’d like to give her the real deal. Thanks for your input.
