Based on the parent photos, and the photos of the nicely feathered chicks, I am still a bit surprised by the all-white one. With those parents you should not get a white chick.
She is as white as a dove! SO CUTEI see, and they look really nice
Based on the parent photos, and the photos of the nicely feathered chicks, I am still a bit surprised by the all-white one.
If there are no other possible parents, I think the most likely explanation is that both parents are carrying the gene called "recessive white," that makes a chicken white all over. If that is the case, about 1/4 of chicks from these parents should be white. So hatching more chicks from the same parents could give more white ones. Breeding two whites together should give just white chicks. Breeding the white to one of its parents should give about a 50/50 split of white chicks and chicks that have red in their coloring. (If you want more white chickens, instead of only the red types that are so common in your area, those are possible ways to get more white ones. If you don't care about getting more of them, then you can obviously ignore those ideas.)
The ones with red & white are pretty normal for parents like these.
Edit to add: if the all-white chick starts showing quite a bit of red in the shoulders or breast as it gets older, then it would not not have recessive white, and must have a different genetic explanation.
They are looking really nice as they grow up!
I'm thinking recessive white, carried by both parents, is the most likely explantion for her coloring. Definitely a surprise, but a really pretty addition to the flock! She is as white as a dove! SO CUTE
