My girls just turned one year in mid-September. My Welsummer, Maddie, is beginning to molt. In the event she looses A LOT of feathers, will I need to apply sunscreen? We live in South Florida and the sun is still really strong. They free-range our backyard and have access to their coop 24/7. She is definitely not herself right now, and even her favorite human, my husband, doesn't seem able to comfort her.

She will be fine as long as she has some shade available to get out of the sun. We are in central Florida and a lot of our girls are looking more like porcupines than chickens right now. They are fine.

I really hope she doesn't loose too many feathers. She is such a pretty girl with all of her shades of brown and gold. She's a bit of a brat but her new found attitude leaves a lot to be desired!
