Will my rooster kill its own chicks?

One of my hens has decided to take to the nest. She's definately lowest in the pecking order, and I'm concerned not only about how the other girls will treat any of her chicks, but how the rooster will react? He's very aggressive as is, and his days with us are numbered, but I'm wondering if I should get rid of him sooner rather than later, since, if everything goes right, we could have new chicks in just a week.

I'm still new to chicken, but have read a lot. Can you move the hen and eggs/chicks into a separate area? maybe a dog crate or something. I know some people do that and once the chicks have hatched the mama will keep them safe

The dad of our hens babies didn't. We let him, her and the baby out in the yard and he only pestered the mom. Of course they are silkies. IDK about the other breeds.

My Serama roo actually catches bugs and gives them to the babies. They stay in the same pen with him and he has always been very protective.

A hen with chicks usually rises in the pecking order because she is a hen with chicks. That's been my experience. A good mamma hen is a fierce protector. As far as the rooster goes, that all depends on the personality of your rooster. When I introduced my baby chicks into the main flock, it was my rooster that often put himself between the chicks and the other uppidy hens. You have to watch and see and act accordingly.

A good rooster will protect all members of his flock. Not all roosters are good.
