I'm going to the feed store today to pick up some chicks, and one of them is a turken. I have no other turkens. Is a single turken likely to get picked on because of the naked neck? Is it better to get 2 or 3 turkens so the naked neck doesn't seem as weird to the other chickens?

I bought two the first time in an order of 8 chicks. They do not get picked on by their own small flock but some of my older hens peck them. I don't think that they get any more pecks than the other young pullets but it is usually on the neck. I've had to treat one with antibiotics for an open shallow wound.
I would not add one. Buy at least two. You will probably want more when you learn how friendly and docile they are. Mine are great layers too. They started at 20 and 21 weeks in the winter. I recently purchased 6 more.

If I were you, I'd get 3-4 turkens and put blue kote on their necks.
The blue kote is a great suggestion, thank you!

Nice to know they don't get picked on too much more than other chickens.

Thanks for the responses! I will probably get 3 turkens, depending on how many the feed store has left.

I have 3 turkens in my mixed breed flock. They have never been picked on by the rest of the flock. I was also concerned that they might get picked on because of their appearance, but it has never been an issue. Based on my experience with them, I wouldn't be afraid of adding just one to my flock.

I have been having the Naked Neck's in my flock now for 3 year's. I have hatched batches of mixed chick's before with some having the fully feathered necks and some as naked neck's. They all have gotten along.
Hush BlueBaby! We want EVERYONE to buy multiple Naked Necks! 😉🤣😂

We bought 2 last June and they picked at each other but no one else picked on them. We just added 2 more February 24th and they’re getting along with the other 12 chicks of different breeds in our little brooder/run. We aren’t introducing them to the rest of our flock until all 14 chicks are old enough
