Will parking the tractor on top of acorns hurt the birds....I have a good yard fill of oak trees

i wouldnt want them in their pen for fear they would get bored and eat a whole one but my turkey forage on the ones we have stepped on or run over. they seem to like them.

I used to peel them, cook them and feed them to the chickens. The tannins are natural dewormers. Certain types are better than others. I think the oaks with the rounded leaves are best as apposed to the pointy leaved ones that do need to be leached before feeding.

Have you been feeding whole grains, allowing them to free range or have they been on mash and only mash since day 1? If the only feed they have been eating is mash then their gizzard may not have enough development to crush the acorns. More critical for younger ones than older birds but the acorn meat itself will not harm them.
