One of my hens has been sitting for months...literally. One egg hatched and the chick died overnight and since then she continues to sit on other eggs. 2 more eggs appeared in her box when she was out acting like a crazy broody hen one day, but they arent hers. So she has another few weeks till the hatch, if they do. But if they dont, will she just keep sitting there? And what do I do with the real old eggs that are still in there? Im afraid that by some freak measure theres a chick in there and I dont wanna get rid of a chick....

take any eggs that are not set for more then 24 hours, mark eggs you want to leave- broody is hormonal- I had one broody for 3 months or something... (no eggs left, no chicks)

I have a black silkie that has been broodie for months. I take her egg away everyday and still she sits. LOL silly chicken. I think she's bored and figures it's better to pass the time snuggled up in the shavings and waiting for spring.

Thanks guys. I did mark all the eggs. Lets hope her wait is worth it!
