Will she ever STOP squatting?

So far only 1 of my 5 pullets is laying (Yay for her!!)

But she will squat if I so much as wave a hand near her.
She does the full-out squat - wings out, tail up, belly to the ground.
Will she ever lighten up?
Or will the other 4 be joining her to "drop and give me 20" when they start laying too?

I confess, I feel a bit guilty - as if I should take her by the wing and say "There, there, you can stand up, sweetie. No roo for you today.....or ever..."

lol, she probably will eventually not do it so much, likely when your other pullets start laying too.

In my yard that behavior is a death sentence. I have too many roosters ready and willing to oblige her.

Awww, just give her a little attention, that's what she wants. I give mine a little backrub, tell them what a good little hen they are, and then they get up, shake their feathers, and go about their business...

I agree.I give mine a little pat too and they do the same thing. I have noticed the older they get they don't seem to squat as much.

Do you have a rooster. I read sometime that she thinks your the dominat rooster? and is wishing you to breed her. LOL

I have two hens that do this and I take advantage

and give lots of feather scrubbies and pats and also the "football hold". Nothing like a snuggle with your chickens!

Unfortunately they also tend to do this when the terrier gets close to the fence and he was able to grab feathers a few days ago while chicken just sat...poor girl. I now have double fences between all chickens and terrier and now even along the coop run side!
