Hi,I just got my new gorgeous scovys only yesterday. They are an adult pair with the male being a black and the female a brown.About 10 mins ago I went to chech on them and I found an egg right in there temporary dog house coop with a kennel attached.Im just wondering if I should leave it in there and let her lay more but will she go broody?im getting a incubator in a few days but I already planned on putting the quail eggs im getting from a female I got from the fair too.Im also wondering what color the ducklings will be.

I am not sure I have followed your schedule, but from what I know (NOT an eggspert here - sorry), you should be able to collect the eggs for a number of days and they should still be viable for incubating. In fact, I think she is less likely to go broody if you do collect the eggs. Let's see what some Muscovy caregivers can offer. I have runners, and in general, they don't tend to go broody at all - I would need an incubator or other breed of duck, even a chicken, if I wanted anything hatched.

Sorry my post is a little messed up,what I wanted to say was that when I get my incubator im going to be putting quail eggs in it so I cant incubate the scovy eggs then.So I was wondering if maybe she would be able to go broody after she hs layed a decent sized clutch? Its a new enviroment for her so im not to sure.

Okay, I don't always follow. Oops.

Yes, from anything I have heard about Muscovy ducks, she is likely to lay about 10 eggs or so, then sit them. Again, I hope some folks with that breed check in. I am fascinated by them, but they are larger than I wanted to deal with, so I got runners instead (they max out at about 3.5 pounds each).

Enjoy the happy couple!

Yeah they are huge and it was like trying to wrestle with a wild boar trying to get the male in the pen lol but now that they have settled down there pretty calm and I like how they dont make much noise and the male is so brave too when my dog started barking at him and coming closer to the dog house he went out into the outside caged part and didnt move while the female was behind him I love them already
