Hi i hope someone can help me. I have 9 24 week old ducks. 3 Cayugas 1 male 2 females . 4 Pekings 3 males 1 female and 2 Swedish blue females. I found a nest yesterday of one of my Cayuga hens covered up with some pine stew. They free range 24/7. What worries me is the Cayuga hens are the loweston the pecking order in my flock they are both always away from the other ducks and get chased off if they get to close. And get ran off from the food to. The one Cayuga hen was the skinny and smallest one of my ducks till she got her egg pouch. My males pick on her the most will they run her off the nest if she sets on them? Iv seen them run my pekin female off when she was trying to lay but she never made a nest before

You have too many Drakes....Possibly she will brood ?...

I second that. Too many drakes will run the hens ragged. Can you either add some hens to your flock (a lot) or get rid of most of the drakes? (with 5 hens, you should really only have one.

If you want her to go broody, you want to make sure she has a secure place to nest, protected from predators (and amorous drakes). No guarantees, but at least that way she will feel safe enough to try.

You will still have too many Drakes even after adding in the 5 new Hens....Drakes will fight and usually all want to breed the same Hen....When the balance is not right Hens can be injured or even killed by Drakes....

Ok tho id hate to part with any of my drakes would giving away two of my Pekings male be good enough?
