I have 11 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Buff Orpingtons. They are all less than a year old and all are females. I am thinking about getting 3 female silkies. Will I have any problems with them getting along with each other? Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

I have a mixed flock including a few rir's and buff orps. We have one silkie hen
who was raised with the flock and one young silkie (i think a roo) who was
introduced to the flock. So far no problems. The silkies are tough, sorta like
the pittbuls of the chicken world. It may be a little violent at first but they should
do fine.

I couldn't begin to predict the temperments of RIR's. Some of my girls are not the friendliest. Just remember the silkies will be a lot smaller than the others with the BO's most likely being your largest girls.

I have 2 RIR's I tried to bring in two new hens and a pullet and they did not care at all, it was my Polish mix that tried to kill the pullet and I had to send her back She was so sweet, when talking about wild creatures on one ever knows. Just try it.

When I introduced my Silkies to my standards, they all got along fine. My concern was my Partridge Rock Roo trying to have his way with that dear little Silkie hen. She would usually get away before he mounted her, but he easily ways 4 times more than her. So I built them there own house. The Silkie run and the Standard run are next to each other.
