i just went into my tack room (not in there very often) and there were a lot of eaten eggs!! i knew something had been getting into my barn and got one nest i knew about but i didnt know anything was laying in the tack room! anyway im going to set a trap in there tonight. not sure how long it has been but i think its a fairly new mess. i am thinking it might have been a skunk b/c lately i have been smelling them around her a lot. my dogs would get after them when they were out at night. i also smelled one this morning. i put my young chicks back out side b/c it warmed up and me and the kids went to the pond. came back and smelled a skunk!!

Skunks will eat eggs and chicks. They also are notorious for carrying the rabies virus. Be sure your dogs are up to date on their rabies vaccinations, and keep your children away from any skunk you see. When skunks get rabies, they often don't show the classic signs of the disease, rather, they act normal, but still can pass the disease via infected saliva. BEWARE!

I witnessed a skunk after my chicks. It is no more. Didn't run away when I approached it. In about a month I got 13 skunks. Haven't seen any for awhile. I don't know how fast they multiply. Have seen a dead one in the road and smelled one too. So there are still some around.
