I have a young chicken that is the mix between a bantam sized cochin and a rhode island red. She has most of her feathers already but she is still very small. She's having some serious trouble walking around. It's so bad she flips over when she walks and I'm afraid she will break her neck. She spends her time laying or sitting down with one leg way in front of her and one leg way behind her. I looked online and I tried treating her for splayed leg syndrome with yarn and/or tape but every time I do, she breaks out of it within ten minutes. She is eating and drinking fine when she can reach them without knocking the bowls over. At the same time she has poultry lice that I am in the process of getting rid of. I just feel so bad for her. My father says that if I do not find a way to help it, he will "put it out of it's misery." I would, of course, try just about anything to prevent that, but when it comes right down to it theres nothing I can do to stop him. If anybody has an idea as to what could be wrong or a better way to treat splayed leg syndrome, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thank you, I will try to do this. I hope it works because this chick is already kind of older and part of the problem is it won't keep it's feet open when it walks. It tries to walk on little nubbs. Thanks again!

It is good to consider riboflavin deficiency vs. marek's disease when you see one leg going forward and one backward.

I personally believe that it might be riboflavin deficiency (curly toe paralysis) since you mentioned that the little one's feet are curled.

Please note that some use Poly vi sol with no iron (baby vitamins) to help give vitamins to poultry. The feed store also sells vitamin packs but I don't know how much riboflavin is in them.
