i just got 2 silkie pullets and was hoping i could use them to foster the chicks im getting in late june, but it turns out the silkies aren't even laying yet. Do you think that their is any possibilty that they could go broody by june 28 if they still aren't laying (i have no idea how old they are)? I i put in 5 chicks with a silkie who isn't broody and not even laying do you think she would peck them to peices or get along with them or even be a mother to them? Should i seperate the 2 sillies and give one of them the five chicks, or should i seperate them and give one of them 3 and one of them 2 chicks, or should i not seperate the silkies and just put the chicks in the coop with them?
thanx

here are some pictures in case anybody can give me a estimate of how old the hens are (they each weigh about 2 pounds)

Don't know, but have one silkie who will be a year in June, she went broody for the first time a month ago..................so that make her 9 months old before she went broody for the first time

I am not sure on the age but the bottom one looks like a roo
