Will the work for a dust bath?

I would say there is a finer dirt that will dry more quickly and be better than any bagged dirt, since it is usually formulated to retain water, it will also easily pickup humidity and not be useable to them as fast as other things..

When learning about it, I recalled a place where I saw sparrows dustbathing, the ground looks like the pond where bluegills nest, a bunch of tiny craters...

I was going to go grab some of that, but since found the chickens dustbathing in any dry dirt, of course, not the spot I created for them with dirt sand DE and Ash!

Here you go. The dust Bath I made for them in the forefront. The one they use in the back where they are.
