Will these work for nesting boxes?

Give it a try.
What I see happening is hens like to make a nest in the box and they will kick and flick nesting material around. They could end up kicking the nesting material out of the box and the eggs would then be dropping on bare wood which could cause egg breakage. Try putting a piece of old carpet in the bottom of the drawer along with nesting material.

Hi, thought I'd tack on a question on this thread, since it fit. What size is that plastic box? And do those of you with the big breeds - giants, orps, etc. think that would work? What general size am I looking for for a coop split between Rocks and Giants?

Thanks...

LET me put it this way , I have Rhode Island Red's , black australorp , barred rocks , and THESE BLACK PLASTIC MILK CRATES ARE EXCELLENT FOR ANY FULL SIZE BREED .

I also use milk crates and I have a drawer from an old refrigerator that I also use. My Ameraucana's, Jersey Giants and Dark Brahma's seem to like them. My problem is that the db's like to roost on them at night and poop in them so I have to clean them out every morning so I turned the milk crates on thier sides this morning after cleaning them out for the umpteenth time. Hopefully this will help. I have roosts for them but they won't use them.

I guess I am really lucky , they ONLY roost in their roosting area and NOT on the nesting boxes . They LAY and right back out inside their run . My black milk crates are totally upright position and filled 1/2 full with pine savings .

I really appreciate the information, just now designing the roost area so I wanted to get specific about sizes before I built (novel huh?) At least it would be novel for me... Think first and do second is SO hard...
