I got a new heat bulb for my little ones! And a lamp dimmer to help regulate it, which is really fun to play with...

But, I went out to wait for it to heat up, and I came back with the little ones sleeping and... the thermometer reading 145?! Whaaat? I'm not sure if it broke because the chicks were RIGHT underneath the lamp and sleeping, and it didn't feel that hot when I opened the brooder. But even if it was, that's wayyy too high. D:

I don't know if I unintentionally gave my chirpers brain damage because the temp got so high. Will they be okay?

It is most likely broken. If chicks get too hot they will move to another area of the brooder or will peep a lot if they are cold.

Maybe you thermometer was wrong, believe me if it was really that high you would know by the screams of the babies and the smell of chicken nuggets cooking. I mistook a 250 watt bulb that I thought was 125 turned it on and went down to the gargage to feed some older kids. When the screaming began, ran up stairs to see temp was 115 and the smell of chickies. All was well because I caught it in time. So if they weren't screaming their beaks off chances are it wasnt that high

Mm. It's so weird! Both thermometers are reading well over 100 degrees, though with 20+ degree differences, but the chirpers are just snoozing, and a few are running around.
