Do guineas age out of screaming constantly? I have 7, nine month old guineas and all they do is get lost and scream all day long. Is there any hope that buy a year this phase will be over and screaming will be reserved for emergency's? Or are the guineas going to find a new home on craigs list.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. My husband and I work nights, they are not so fun to hear while sleeping! I wonder if I get rid of a few, would they quiet down. I had two last summer and they were not very loud, plus they were amazing at keeping down ticks and mosquitoes.

They don't scream in the oven....hint hint

JK, mine never quit, and they were over a year old.

mine don't yell all the time, quite often they murmur and chatter to each other- but yes they are loud birds, and if they are unsure of something they will talk about it-

I've found mine have gotten very quiet. The flock leaders are several years old, the flock has grown so its not often that I hear much out of them. There are times when I can't see them I also realize I have not heard them all day. So yes, as they get a tad older, are more secure in their habitat they do get quieter. Its just that until then they can be pretty miserable to be around.

thats interesting, often when i come out and don't hear or see them, i'll call and they come running or flying in to say hello, yelling as they do, when they are roaming with the chickens you can hear them muttering and talking to each other... love watching the dynamics-

Yes, they WILL stop yelling:

During feed time

During a Drink

During a heavy, heavy sleep

During a free range find out

During nesting

and finally During death

The ladies NEVER seem to shut up, they are yacking continuously, while the males go ballistic over anything that startles them.

It is the nature of the animal. Here is a poem from the noted author:

The Sixth Day Bird

The Creator, creating the beasts of the field,
In a moment of whimsy could not help but yield
To an urge, and what could be fitter?

"I'll make Me one final whimsical critter!"
He began with the torso, spheroidal, prolate,
With legs short and stubby and toes six or eight.
The head wears a helmet with a strawberry top
And down-dangling wattles either straight or a lop.
Most birds are melodious, with a tune for each
He endowed this one with a god-awful screech.
They seldom walk--'tis a run or a trot,
Snatching bugs left and right, one for each polka-dot.
Their mentality make(sic) them insatiably curious.
They greet things strange with clamor furious
He made 'em gregarious to run in a flock
Then, wearily spent, He looked at his clock.
The Sixth Day ebbed into night when He
Grinned as He rested and called it a GUINEA!
