Will they lay this fall?

Our guineas hatched the last week of March, so they are almost 3 months old. I thought I read somewhere that guineas may lay in the fall if you get them early enough, anyone had that experience? Hubby was asking when they would start laying today and I wasn't sure if we could possibly get eggs this year or if we are definitely waiting until next Spring. If it matters, we are in Southeast Alabama, long, long summer season here.

Since you are in SE Alabama, it is possible that your guineas may start laying in November or December this year. If they do, they may only lay for a few weeks or so and then stop until next spring. If you were farther north, they most likely would not lay until next spring.

I'm in SE Bama too. Other than some Ameraucanas that took nearly a year to start laying, all my birds have usually started laying by 6-7 months old. I haven't had any guineas since back in '05 and can't remember if they waited till spring to lay or not. I do wish you good luck with them, they sure make good yard alarms!

They are my favorite birds. They follow me everywhere. The chickens are starting to try to follow me because they see the guineas getting treats, but me and the rooster are about to have a throw-down so they don’t get as many treats. Until I get a fence around my property or until the guineas decide to fly over the 6’ Chain link, I’ve decided to keep them in the duck/goose yard when I’m not able to keep an ear on where they are because they keep wandering into the front yard. I’ve got them trained to a ring tone on my phone and it’s hysterical watching them come running when I play it or when someone calls me when I’m outside.

Well, coming back to update this. I got my guineas from RK on March 27th, guessing they were maybe five days old. And yesterday we found a nest of a dozen guinea eggs after finding a few eggs (duck and guinea) scattered around the duck yard. I have six females so I don’t know how many are laying, and the eggs are tiny yet, but at less than four months, my guineas are laying! Not sure if they’ve been fertilized, I’m gonna put them in the incubator and see . And my ducks that are four months started laying this week, too
