Hello!
Quails are two weeks old, fluffy little nutters anddddd have discovered they can fly. So they do. One got out when I was filling up feed and I spent the morning chasing a feathered bullet around the basement. He's back in now! After about fifteen minutes of chase he decided he was too cold and jumped back in the brooder.
Anyway!
I also have a Mini Holland Lop rabbit, and I've seen some benefits of adding timothy hay (which we have sooooo much of) to quail hutches. Is two weeks to young to give them some in the brooder?
Thanks!

They'll likely like hunkering down in the hay but I don't see them eating any at this early age.
Gamebirds at that age in nature eat primarily insects, other small invertebrates and vertebrates. So at this time they need very high protein.
What are you feeding them? Guaranteed analysis?
Stick with their feed unless they need bedding.

I have a 24 percent protein currently, am looking at mealworm or crickets once I can find some good grits. Thanks! The hay was intended for bedding, just thought they might like it for their hut.

they look like buttons to me.
Also, only one of the birds in your picture is a tuxedo.
You’re probably right! I knew it started with a B, (button or bob). Jeez! Didn’t know that only one was actually tuxedo! That’s my first time quail owner knowledge for ya :gig
