Hi, so i am still new to raising chickens. We have moved them out to our back yard and i am finding the yard is spider central. Most of them are up where the chickens cant get them. I. Severely petrified of spiders. It is keeping me from wanting to go and socialize with my chickens. I found a product to help eliminate spiders, but before I use it, i want to make sire i wont harm my chickens. It is called web off and contains:Thyme Oil, Lemongrass Oil,Citronella,Sodium Lauryl Sulfate,Vinegar, Isopropyl Alcohol, Water. Or does anyone have any other ideas? I want to be able to enjoy my yard and our amazingly sweet chickens, but right now i am literally paralized by fear. Thank you!!!

That concoction probably won't be killing any spiders, but it will help to repel them. Spiders taste with their feet, and don't like to walk in areas sprayed with citronella or citrus oils. If you do spray it in the coop, make sure the chickens aren't in there to inhale it. Besides that I don't think it will cause any real harm. Chickens love to eat spiders, give them some time, and your local spider population will start to decrease.

let your girls out in the lawn, they will take care of your spider problem.... its a bad day to be an insect when you have chickens free ranging.... your problem will diminish quickly.. your chickens will enjoy eating them... we have 13 girls now nearing 4 mos old, free ranging, they are constantly patrolling the lawn for bugs... my son has flipped some rocks over found ant hives and such.. dinner!!!!!!!! sucks to be an ant :)

They definitely are helping with the spiders on the ground... the problem is the spiders that create their webs on the upper portion of the coop or in the trees where they can't get to them.

I have a rather large banana spider in my chicken run right now the ladies usually keep them down but I have let this guy stay and I know where he is at all times if he walks I will have to kill him I cannot watch a spider walk it gives me goose bumps and shivers! But since he is currently working on the fly situation...

oh Heck no... I would be going no where near that coop! I have smallish spiders swarming the coop and I am having a hard time some days forcing my self to go out there. Finally decided screw it over the past couple of days (because we are trying to introduce a new pullet to our flock), and what do you know, one of those freaking spiders bit me =/

This disturbs some people, but I don't get rid of the spiders in my coop. Why? Because since I've begun letting them hang on the ceiling or near the window, no more flies!

But if you're arachnophobic, that's not an option. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is toxic, I believe, but if you spray while your chickens are outdoors and let it air out I think it will be fine. As long as they're not inhaling it or ingesting it.
