hi i have a flock of 10 1rooster 9 hens and would like to add some more chicks and think it would be cool to make a incubator but this is my first time incubating and would like to know if this way will hatch my chicken eggs i get a plastic tub and put my heating pad at the bottom put a light cloth on it then put the eggs and a thermomenter next to the eggs and put a cloth over that and a bowl of water and some rocks will this idea work thanks to all help and any tips on incubating are welcomed and thanket

I've always been told "the Way to find out is do it"

If you can keep the temp steady at 99decrees and the humidity anywhere from 45 - 60 you should be able to hatch chicken eggs at least.

I have not used heat pad to hatch, but I have used to keep babies warm, seemed like the low setting was too hot. Now the other concern would be how would you keep the eggs moist?

Uh... i tried to set one up like that. I couldnt get anything close to stable temps. The heating pad heats and then cools and the plastic bins loose heat too easily. The chicks love a heating pad though.

My least stressful hatches were in a plywood box with 2 mini fans from walmart, 1 60w incandescent with a dimmer switch, and 2 mini bulbs in 2 car headlight sockets that were attached to 2 12v thermostats.

The incandescent was behind a wire wall with tinfoil to block the majority of the light and the fans were blowing from there toward the eggs. The mini bulbs were above the eggs.

I tried lots of things before getting to this setup
