Will this work or is it way too little space?

I currently have 9 chickens, but am getting rid of my two roos so i really will have 7. my coop is 5x4 feet with two roosting bars. I have 2 ees, 1 wyandotte, 1 orpington, 1 australorp, and 4 silkies(getting rid of two). I am buying some hatching eggs and am going to keep the girls, and im hoping to get about 7 girls. so that would be a total of 14 chickens. is that way too many for the space? they spend all there time in the run (8x15+underneath the coop so 140 square feet) except for laying and sleeping. we have good weather here pretty much all the time. it never gets below about 50, and rarely rains. the summer weather never gets over 95 so the chickens never have to stay in the coop. Sorry for the long paragraph, but the main question is:will 20 square feet work for 14 chickens? if not can i out in some shelves or something or is it just not do able? Thanks

The general rule for coop size is 4 sq feet per bird and 10 sq ft in run. I have found that with even more room per bird you will have less pecking and happier and healthier birds.

Yes I agree. We have two bantam chicks almost ready to move into our new coop! http://www.petsmart.com/product/ind..._source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default We will probably be getting a RIR also

i have heard that rule, but i have also heard 1 square foot per and others, and im changing that to 12 birds in there, which is a little less than 2 square feet per bird, but two are banams and i was thinking about adding a little shelf in there which be around 5 or 6 square feet and hoping for the best.
