slystr, you should be ok, but if you want it warmer you could lower the light some more to about 18" from the ground, providing they have room to move away from directly under the light, yet still within the blanket enclosure.

I would put some hardware cloth around the bottom of the pen to keep predators from reaching in and grabbing a chick.

Our house was close to downtown when I lived in Dallas, and we caught 10 raccoons in a 7 day period on my back deck. There was also a family of them living in a neighbor's attic. This was in the city. Please be careful.
