Why is a window neccesary in a coop?

Is it just for appearance or a function?? And another ?? what colors do chickens see?

Ventilation.
Chickens will die without sufficient ventilation and excessive heat more often than anything else but predators.
Try to get a minimum of 1 square foot of opening for every bird. In fact, most breeds of chickens wouldn't need a coop if it wasn't for predators. A roof to keep them dry would be sufficient.

Not sure about the colors they see but I do know that we look like the blue people to them.

It needs to be daylight inside during the day and dark at night, with the light coming and going at dusk and dawn as it does outside. There is no window in my coop because parts of two "walls" are made of hardware cloth.

A coop also needs to be well ventilated, even in very cold weather, just in case you're not aware of this. Here is a good article about ventilation

Good info thanks, I was gonna close my coop up tighter than Dicks hat band & would have killed my chickens. I was thinking "make a fort so predators want get in" type coop! I have to rethink this thang!

Invest in hardware cloth or expanded metal to cover all the big openings. Hardware cloth, well attached, will keep anything out except maybe bears and mountain lions.
