IMO, especially where winter is a real season, chickens NEED at least 4 s.f. of well ventilated COOP per bird.

That might provide enough light and ventilation.....at least build good roof overhangs with open eaves in the coop.He doesn’t want to mess with windows since nearly one whole wall going into the run will stay open. I just don’t know if he’s right.
My husband built it. I love it and when I sat and planned it with him I didn’t really have a grasp on what a woods coop aka fresh air coop was but knew that is what I wanted lots of fresh air and sunshine. Now that I have seen modern pictures of them and not grainy black and white I see I really had it all wrong.
Now my husband is giving me a hard time about the size and windows. He thinks a 4x8 addition is plenty of room for 15 Silkies to sleep and lay in, he also thinks ventilation is fine and they don’t need windows to sleep.
