I don't remember seeing any nesting boxes with windows and I'm not sure if that is because they are not a good idea, or simply I just haven't seen it done lol. DH is working on the coop build with me today and our nesting box has turned into an extention on the coop due to a few design flaws. His bright idea is to make a swing down door style box and put plexi glass in the door (what we're using for a door has 3 openings) so we can "see any eggs from the outside and we can watch the egg laying process".

I will not let him continue until I check in here 1st

As a girl myself, don't kow how comfortable I would be showing that off to the world... just sayin'!

So, windows in the nesting box

, what say you?!

Hens prefer to lay their eggs in a dark, quiet spot. That's the reason so many folks who let their chickens free range, whether full time or just when the owners are home, find eggs in secluded spots. Hens will choose dark spots under bushes, in alcoves and other places - some pretty weird and unexpected!

I won't presume to tell you what to do, of course, but given that the nature of most moms, including chickens, is to protect their progeny from predators, they probably won't feel safe and secluded enough to lay in well lit boxes with visual access. I would think that a nest box with plexiglass would have the unintended effect of them laying anyplace they could find except where you want.
