i am going to build the purina coop for my 6 chicks. i was thinking it would be nice to have a window like shops do... you know, almost the whole wall. or maybe the lid to the nest boxes being plexi glass or something. but then i remembered someone talking about their mishap with the floor pop hole. so.... does anyone see a problem? has anyone tried this? maybe chickens dont like windows, idk. any advice? thanks!!
details, details, they are 3wko now, 4 golden comets and 2 rir's

They will love the window(s) - go for it. They let in natural light which is good for both you and your chickens. The only issues I can think of that windows can pose is letting cold air in around them and predators could break through. So, use double pane windows (if possible) and plenty of caulking around the edges. And, the most important thing: cover them with hardware cloth to keep your chickens safe.

I have seen floor to ceiling windows on some coops here. I have 4ftx4ft windows.

You don't want plexiglas nestbox lids, really... I assume you're talking about exterior nestboxes here, and even if chickens would lay in that situation (and not all would), it is just TROLLING for predators. A really determined predator with his chicken dinner in sight will test your coop a LOT more severely than one who merely suspects chickens might be on the other side of the wall... and exterior nestboxes are a weak point in coop security at the best of times.

As for a big 'picture window', sure, go ahead, don't put it on the south or west side of the coop unless it is totally removeable (to wire mesh) for summer use -- which would really be by far the best design for your climate, because (esp. with a goodly roof overhang) it'd give you the ventilation you want for summer.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
