My first winter season with my chickens, and the weather forecast calls for winds from 30-40 knots, and gust up to 50-65 knots. I love my chicken, and I don't want to see them get beat up by the strong winds. They typically free range, but I will keep them in there run until this weather system passes. Will they be smart enough to go in the coop when the winds get too strong?

If the weather gets bad enough, they will go into the coop. Just make sure that the coop, while being well ventilated, is dry and draft free. Feathers are very efficient insulators. Moisture is a much greater danger than cold.
