Wing bands, legs bands?

I'd think leg bands would be easiest to identify quickly, but are wing bands safer for the birds? Do you folks in cold climates have any problems with the aluminum leg bands on your turkeys? I'd like to permanently ID all birds (only 8 currently), but also want to do what is best and safest for the birds

We have always used colored plastic zip ties for ID. Each variety has their own color and once you set up a system for ID you can just look at the birds and tell who is who. right leg 2010, left leg 2011 etc etc
