My girls are 5 wks old and like to spread their wings. They are still in the mud room here in Oregon. What is the concensus on clipping their wings?

I really don't think I want to do it.... I couldn't even clip my dog's nails by myself.

We are starting to build their tractor/arc this weekend. When finished the girls will be protected.

I take them outside on warm days and put them in portable dog pen. Today, however, one of them flew and perched on the rim of the (at least) 2 ft high pen. I have an un-fenced 1/2 acre in town with lots of ferrel cats. I was told they need to be inside with their light until 7 -8 weeks of age and/or with full feathers.

Any thoughts..??

I keep a 11 watt red sign light bulb on in my coop 24/7. Like a night light. One night it burned out and all the birds were on the floor instead of the roosts. I think because they are used to the light.

I don't or haven't clipped my birds wings. They are in a fenced in yard. When I have let them out they stayed close by. Probably for their treats.
