Do Orpingtons tend to grow their wing feathers out any faster than other breeds? We got 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Australorp, and 1 Barred Rock, and were told they all hatched the same day (9th). The Orp has quite the little wing feathers coming in, probably at LEAST twice as many as the other two
Just wondering!

I don't think it is a breed specific thing. Some chicks are just early sprouters. Maybe the hen was in a better nutritional condition when she laid that egg? Put a little something extra in that yolk? Some chicks just hatch out HUGE and ready to meet the world. Others take a little longer to get ready for life outside the brooder. In a few weeks you won't remember who your biggest and first-feathered were unless they are all different breeds. They will all catch up!

Yeah, it's funny, she's actually a little bit smaller that the barred rock (but rounder, ha ha!), but has a whole bunch of wing feathers already. These are my first chicks, so I wasn't sure if it was breed specific, or if maybe she was actually hatched earlier and the feed store told me wrong, or what. Glad to know she's probably just an early bloomer!
Thanks!
