Great use of a shipping crate. I picked up 2 a few years ago that were 24 x 56 x 18. One I made into a brooder and the other I put shelves in for garage duty.

That's funny because we did the same thing. Made a workbench out of one too and put it on wheels. Work smarter, not harder.Great use of a shipping crate. I picked up 2 a few years ago that were 24 x 56 x 18. One I made into a brooder and the other I put shelves in for garage duty.
Congrats on your little ones.So.. chicken math hit me.
I got baby chicks from farm down the road. I wanted Black Copper Marans, Blue Olive Eggers, and more Easter Eggers. They were completely sold out!
So I ended up with 2 Blue Copper Marans, 2 "light" Olive Eggers (supposedly more of a mint), and 4 "Mystic" Olive Eggers. They look like they may be fibro and supposedly lay a darker olive.
They're brooding about 5 acres away from my original flock for the next month or two for quarantine. Then I'll put them in the chicken tractor next to the coop for the "look but no touch" method.

So get this.. I reached out to Ideal (the poultry farm I go to breeds some but they also buy bulk from Ideal Poultry) and Ideal said they will not be releasing specific mix info on that OE. I thought that pretty odd. Maybe proprietary? Like "secret ingredients?"Congrats on your little ones.
I'm very curious about these 'Mystic' OEs. Did you get any info on the parent stock cross?
Looking forward to seeing your new additions grow out.
This is just a wild guess because I don't know enough about genetics to speculate ...but Meyers hatchery in Ohio sells a fibro EE. I wonder if this is a BCM or dark egg roo (possibly Welsummer I've heard mentioned also can be used) x this Fibro EE or even a Fibro OE for the darker Olive. So get this.. Ahhh that is very possible! I will definitely be updating pics as they grow. And of course egg pics later in the year. The Blue Marans are a beautiful color in person. I'm feeling great about this bunch. They all seem pretty lively which is a good sign. This is just a wild guess because I don't know enough about genetics to speculate ...but Meyers hatchery in Ohio sells a fibro EE. Would it be that simple?
But yes, this is true with alot of hatcheries that won't divulge their personal signature crosses.
I've been wanting Fibros forever, started out wanting a second flock of Svart Honas but settled on not wanting the stress load of 2 separate genetics to have to learn. But then spotted the Fibro EE's thru Meyer's and got all tingly til I spotted the $20/day old sticker. But if I could grab some of these fibro EE/OE on the cheap end, this would be a fun mix to play with.
Really look forward to seeing your Blues and these Mystics feather out.
Haha Yep. You went down the same rabbit hole I did!Slightly funny story...
Went to Ideals website and couldn't find them. So googled 'Mystic OE'...nada. but an 'Onyx OE' did. BYC linked.
So I start reading the thread and when I finished, I was going to link it to ya here.
