Silvermist sighed, then realized that getting the chicks to a safe place would be top priority. She slowly began to walk, see-saw fashion, across the camp, legs held straight so the chick couldn't escape.

"Good choice," Bloodwing agreed. "No better chef than a duck, they say. They have the magic touch." He glanced over at the steamed watercress finished with a pile of slow-simmered crickets.

Silvermist managed to usher the chick into the nursery, releasing the little livid fluffball but guarding the entrance so that it couldn't escape. She glanced warily towards the forest, unnerved by the cry.
