“That’s weird.” Raptor said with a huff, in an agitated tone of voice. “And stop calling me ‘boss’, it’s weird.”

"My word, you are garbage at this." Aloe shoved the scroll back at Gila. "Enchant it first, then ask whether he's dead or not. Hey, enchant the scroll to answer all your questions. That could be useful."
Gila winked at Raptor before turning back to Aloe. “That’s not how it works,” he said, snatching the scroll back. “All I have to do is tell something to do something and it’ll do it, because I’m just that awesome, but just to make you feel better…” he spread out the scroll before clearing his throat dramatically. “I enchant this scroll to answer any question I ask it.” He said, rolling his eyes. “Now. Scroll, where am I right now?”
Spiraling black ink scrawled slowly across the paper. The SandWing Fortress, the words said. “See?” Gila said matter of factly. “Not broken.”
“Now, tell me.” The SandWing said to the scroll. “Is Leif of the IceWings dead?”
As before, nothing appeared. “Hmm.” Gila touched a claw to his chin thoughtfully.

"Well, I dunno, ask it if he's alive, maybe." Aloe scoffed.

(It should be able to answer that correctly. So, yes, Leif is alive.)

(Gotcha.)
"Is Leif of the IceWings alive?" Gila queried. Black words began to appear, to Gila's surprise.
Yes, The scroll had written. "There's our answer." Gila said, his former carefree attitude dimmed and replaced by a brooding thoughtfulness. "So why," he said, "Is he supposedly vanished?" he looked up, glancing at each of the dragons in turn. "This isn't adding up. Maybe he's hidden himself?"

(It cannot answer that question.)

“Where is Leif?” Gila asked. The words began to appear. Gila leaned close in anticipation, wings twitching. I cannot answer that question, was the maddening answer. “Three moons,” Gila muttered.

Aloe grumbled. "Well, I feel as though the Kingdom of Ice would be his go to. But then again, the remnants of the IceWing army did quite desperately try to kill him before you left." She nodded to Raptor, sighing heavily. "I haven't heard from the IceWing ambassador recently either. And he isn't here, already searched quite thoroughly."

“Makes sense,” Gila nodded. “Raptor, could we use the Obsidian Mirror to drop in on the IceWings?”
