Hi all! I'm in-process for getting a permit to house chickens on my property. The way the WS ordinance reads is that you only need a permit if your coop is less than 150' from property lines (but horses, ponies, donkeys & cows only need to be 50' from property lines....go figure). I'm wanting to use a great building already on premises. So, I apply for the permit and post the sign the city gives me on the day they want it posted. And two days later a city investigator arrives at the house for a complaint that was filed (we've had chickens for over a year, but I was only recently made aware of the ordinance). Of course now I'm extra nervous about the hearing, which is scheduled for next week. I know that folks in opposition to the chickens need to come to the hearing and protest. I'm looking for anyone in the city who has gone through this process, and what your experiences have been. I'd LOVE advice on collecting information to present my case (I've already started. I'm a Registered Vet Tech, too, and I'm planning on making that well known). I've tried searching the NC right to farm act, but have not had any luck (this is quite an ag state, so I know there's something out there.)
Would love feedback and advice.
Would be interested in local poultry support groups, as well.
Thanks to all in advance!!
